Up and Down
That’s all I did today. At the library and at Kmart, of all places.
Scene 1: Library
I was on the 2nd floor of the library, attempting to make copies of some reference material. I needed to break a ten to add some money to my copy card. I needed to go down to the courtesy desk on ground floor to get change. So down I went, and up again. As I inserted my card in to add money, the machine jammed. Just my luck! I signal to the librarian, that I’m having problems with the copy card machine. He directs me to another librarian, who tells me that I have to go downstairs to the courtesy desk to fix the problem. I go downstairs, and the lady tells me there is nothing I can do about. And that we can send it to vendor, but that’s about it. I’m just going to have to get a new copy card. A new copy card cost 30 cents. And I refuse to get a new one out of principle. Supposely, if you a copy card, your it’s 15 cents a copy, as oppose to 20 cents without a copy card. I know it’s not a dramatic difference in price. But truthfully, every penny counts.
Scene 2: Kmart
The saga continues. I had to lug my ass to Kmart to get some cell batteries for my new travel clock. Which I had incidentally purchased at another Kmart in the city earlier last week. I headed down to the electronic section, and inquired where I would be able to locate cell batteries. The salesman, gave me a baffled look, and sent me upstairs to the jewelery department where the clocks are sold. At least I got to go up on the escalator as oppose to the stairs. When I got to the jewelery department, I asked the sales lady where I might be able to find the batteries for the clock. She told me that I should go down to the electronic department. At this point, I wasn’t going to have any of this running up and down the escalator. So informed her that I just came from the electronic department. She called down to electronics, there were no batteries avaliable. Grumble. I wish they told me that in the first place, then I wouldn’t have need to go upstairs to ask the same question. Eventually I ended up getting the batteries at a local five and dime store around my neighborhood.
