Whispering wind

There was no whispering wind out there last night. After departing the pottery studio I ran some errands and went out dinner with my friend EH. We headed over to the Chip Shop in Park Slope. Bad idea. It was a good 10 block walk which isn’t that bad in normal sunny weather. But we didn’t think we had to battle the wind and the rain. My umbrella is totally toasted. It’s been flipped over and dragged. Very reminiscent of the whirling wind around the quads on my old college campus. We survived the wind’s whiplash and was seated for our fish and chips. It wasn’t that warm in the restaurant but the food was pretty average. And we couldn’t bare to go back out into the wind. At first it was okay with the wind against us. Of course, it started raining harder. So we ducked into Commerce Bank. And quivering at the thought of going back out in the cold. So into the woods we go, okay just the streets. As we started marching down the street to be met with hail. Only 3 more blocks to Keyfood. I must find those soy nuts. My co-worker got me hooked. Onward, we go. We get into Keyfood, and let’s say it was warmer in there then it was at Chipshop and Commerce Bank combined. Up and down the aisles I go and there was no freaking soy nuts. I’m literally grumbling on my way up and down the aisles. I’m just glad I’m finally out of the wind. I really don’t know if I want to venture out into the wind. I might get swept off my feet.

Holiday Cheer

As I walked out of my house this morning, I was bombarded by various SMS from my friends wishing me a Merry Christmas. It’s quite funny. Partially, since I haven’t been out of my house since the night before Christmas. Why you may ask? Most of my friends are either out of town, spending time with their family or hanging with their gfs. They fled the city like they did Thanksgiving.

I’m not much of Christmas person. Perhaps, it’s because I’m not Christian. Hmm.. maybe I should stop being so cynical, I might be so lucky to bombarded by comments from the Christian fanatics trying to convert everyone. Don’t get me started on that. And I’m not Scrooge.

So what, I don’t celebrate Christmas. It’s a very commercial holiday. I may not be Christian, but I do celebrate my friends and family. They’re the most important to me, not something anyone can take away from you. And I do get that warm fuzzy feeling when I get a text from my friends on Christmas day. Shhh.. That’s a secret.

Post Thanksgiving Festivities

Last night I went to my friend ML’s Get Your Tryp Out, post-Thanksgiving party in Bushwick. I halted my arse there via the 5 train transfer. The Q to the Shuttle; to the C; to the A; and finally the L. It was definitely a party of cast of characters. One being my friend ML. There was this guy there that reminded me of Andy Warhol. He had the white hair, white glasses, sweater, pinstripe pants and motorcycle boot. Did I forget he his this funky velvet blazer. But he was definitely very gregarious. Then there was this guy who was brooding over this girl and having an argument with her via text message. Can I say having an argument via text message is very lame. Just pick up the phone and call the girl. Of course, he was a writer from Buffalo. He provided a few minutes of amusement as he was downing his bowling ball Budweiser. While chatting with him he pointed out his buddy who was there on a first date with Aqua girl. Why is she called aqua girl. Apparently, she wears only white and aqua. How strange. I ended up leaving a little before midnight. Right after the shadow puppet show. All in all it was an interesting evening.

Strike a Pose – The 30th Recap

Since my birthday fell on a Monday, I can to have my big shindig on Friday. So I lugged my friends to Lakeside Lounge for my bday shin dig. Why this I choose this venue. It’s because of the photo booth. I wanted all my friends to take silly pictures and hand the strips over to me. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that there would be a musical act at about 10:30 which pretty much scared my friends away. Partially because you couldn’t hear anything to talk. For some strange reason I had a contingence of lawyer at my party. Well about 5 of them were friends of D.I. As I would call them D.I. & co. Ha ha. And there were 3 on my side. A housing, employement and a legal aid lawyer. Very different than the corporate lawyer and the odd man out aka the litigator. Oh wells. In the end it was a lot of fun. With everything that occured this past year, I’m very fortunate to be here to celebrate my 30th with my friend. As I get older, and I know this sounds cliche, but friends are more important than presents.

Did Someone say Beer?

I’m not much of a beer drinker. But my friend EH asked if I wanted to go the Brooklyn Brewery Tour on Saturday. It’s a free tour they give every Saturday. So I sent out an email to rally the troops. Didn’t take much convince a few folks to go on a 30 minute tour with the promise of free beer at the end. We were hoping to catch the tour at 3pm, but factoring in the Asian and Jew time, we end up going on the last tour of the day. Oh wells. But the strangest thing happened at the tour. I ran into this girl Rachael who I saw at the NYCares. project I was at earlier this morning. What a small world. And a funny coincidence.

Coney Island

So after the Strange Plates dinner disperse. I scurry away to Bergen street to meet the Hsi twins. We were going to head over to Coney Island. Originally, we were going to try to catch the fireworks. As usual, we were working on twin time plus Asian time. Which basically equated to missing the firework show. So we more or less putzed around Astroland. Watching the people get on the Top Spin ride. They had to stop the ride in the middle because this woman just wanted to get off. Oh wells. Onward we go.

Next, we landed in one of the many arcades. And we feast our eyes on the air hockey machine. I haven’t played air hockey since I was back in London last year. It was a showdown between K. and me. We were neck and neck, but I reign victoriously. One twin down, one to go. J. was the next challenge. He was up 4 to 1. Flexs muscles crack knuckles Now I’m ready. All focused I even the score to 4 – 4. But in the end J. was no match for me. Can I say, bow down to the queen of air hockey. ha ha.

The Wonder Wheel was next. But this time we’re going in the stationary car. Thank god it wasn’t windy. At the end of the ride we decided to take some photos at an old photo booth. That was a lot of fun. Got some really interesting expressions from the twins. But the pictures were way too dark. Then I took some pictures of myself. And I had 4 expressions I always make. Squinch Nose

The Hunt Begins

Through the various emails I get, I found out about the Manhunt Wall Street game tonight. Of course, I had to immediately email my friend R about the game since it is taking place in his hood. The thing I didn’t expect was a call at about 9:40pm from R inquiring when the game ends. Apparently, he found a nice hiding spot but was wondering how long he should hide out. Unfortunately, his gf was already tagged. What a bummer. But believe or not, he’s behind the dumpster waiting it out. Hopefully, he will reign victoriously. But it’s still funny that he called while hiding out.

Musicology

Yesterday, I went to the Prince conert at the Continental Arena in Jersey with my friends. Yeah, Jersey. It was one of those concerts that got you moving. Let’s just say, that Prince is definitely a natural born entertainer. And I can understand why both woman and men love him. He has that IT factor. And totally oozes sex appeal. Plus he’s quite a tease on stage. Some would probably consider that playfulness.

The downside was during intermission my friends try to take my knitting needles away from me. *frown*

Role Reversal

Today is some holiday where you go to the cementary to pay respects to your relatives who have passed. My mom and me went to visit my father’s grave. First off, it was the commute from hell in Brooklyn. Not only were trains not running locally to Manhattan, but you also had to transfer for a shuttle at another station for a connecting train to Manhattan. All I can say is bah!

My mom was having a bit trouble walking up the hill towards the cementary. And had asked to me run ahead to put flowers on my father’s grave. Basically she would meet me at the mansoleum. So I ran ahead and put the flowers on my father’s grave. When I walked out, I didn’t see my mother. So I looked down the hill to see if she was still on her way. There was still no sign of her. So I ran down the hill and back the cementary. But my mom was still missing. So I asked the security guard if she saw a little old lady under 5 feet in a navy blue jacket. And she said no. So I started to get a bit worried and started back tracking again. Eventually, I found my mother. All I can say to her was do you know worried sick you had me. What role reversal. And that security guard really needs to have her eyes checked.

Hyperdrive

The last two times I had coffee, it has put me on super hyper drive. I was hanging out with NC, and talking a mile a minute. It was like the Tazmania wabbit. *smile* Then NC, and I headed over to Staples to get some crates. The guy that was suppose to string up the crates. But he took forever, and I swear NC was ready to snatch the string out the guy’s hands. And all I could do was stand there laughing. It was one of those you had to be there
