Reality Check

My friend NC just informed me her bf is going back to school in PA. My initial reaction is “Woo Hoo!” Now she hang out with me again. Not that I have anything against JC, he’s a cool guy. But I sort of miss my best friend. hehehe =) Watch me do the happy dance. He is due to depart NYC as of June 30th. Time to start the countdown. He he he.

But I really do miss hanging out with my friend NC. She kind of is the person that gives me usual reality check. Besides the fact that she is one the very few people that knows me inside out.

The Accidental Tourist

Yesterday, I went on a whirlwind tour of NYC. And right now, I’m totally wiped out. My energy reserved has been drained. The two cups of coffee yesterday, didn’t do diddly to keep me up. Guess, I must accept the fact I’m getting old. Soon, you’ll see this short little asian girl trouncing around the city in a walker. ha ha ha. That must be sight to be seen. Perhaps. Okay, I’m being a little bit more melodramatic.

Here are the sites we hit: Rockefeller Center and the Tree Time Square Empire State Building Dim Sum in Chinatown at Tai Hong Lau Little Italy Ground Zero Tram to Roosevelt Island Lombardi’s for Pizza

In the end everyone was totally wiped out. I was a bit sad when I went to Ground Zero. I’ve passed by it many times in the past year. But I still get disturbed by the kind of tourist attraction it has become. It’s a bit of a circus with scam artist, pick pocketers, and just people trying to turn a profit off a dime. For god sakes, it’s a cementary. I’ve been fortunate enough to have not known anyone who has died because of the incident directly. But it is still sad. I can understand why people go to the platform for solace. And why they might have a need to take pictures of the site. I get so upset when people pose for pictures in front of the site smiling. There is just something so wrong about that. Do I feel this way, because I was in NY when this all happened. Or it’s just wrong.

All in all, I was a pretty productive day. My cousin Jason sort of became the accidental tourist. He’s never done the tourist thing. So it was quite interesting to watch him snap pictures like the many tourist that populate our great city this time of year.

Invasion of the Relatives

Being the holiday season, it is peak tourist season in NYC. Of course, the relatives are coming. My cousin’s cousin Jenny has come down from Uni in Canada to visit the big apple. Kind to think of it, I don’t think I ever had a relatives visit during the winter. I guess they just hack the seasons or the cold weather. Got to give it to Cousin Jenny props for being so brave to weather this chilly weather. For some reason, and I don’t know how this rumor started, but I have become the family tour guide. I hate taking tours so I refuse to just throw them on a bus. You can actually cover more ground if you just do it yourself. Besides tours are for wimps, and I think Cousin Jenny much braver then that. So I’m going to be on this whirlwind tour all around NYC today. You’ll be surprised how much ground I can cover. They better be prepared with their walking shoes. *grin* Cause that’s all they will be doing today.

Gobble Gobble Weekend Recap

My Thanksgiving was pretty simple. I spent it with my mother. And instead of turkey, we each had a 8 oz steak. Mmmmm good. Since a lot of my friends went away for the holiday, I had no motivation to venture to the outside world. So for 2 days, I didn’t leave my apartment building. Though I did leave my apartment to throw out the garbage. Dude! I didn’t want any vermins lurking around my flat.

Finally, on Saturday my friend convinced me to come out of my hole. We had dinner and then we headed over to the a swanky bar at the W hotel. I felt so under dressed compared to my friend. I was decked out like I just walked out of a Banana Republic commerical, while my friend was freezing her ass in a skirt. Geez Louise! I would never sacrifice warmth for fashion. So illogical!

We waltzed into this swanky hotel bar to witness the NYC single scene, or should I say mating scene. All the waitress were dressed in this ultra skimpy outfits. They all definitely had the cleavage department covered, but man their thighs were huge. Well.. they were.

It quite interesting to sit back and observe. Things are so much funnier when you’re sober. Anyhow, there was woman sitting at the couch across from her and she was totally wasted. Her breast were literally falling out of her shirt. And you definitely knew she was a goner when she was fighting with the guy over a Piglet stuffed animal. Yes, Piglet from Winnie the Pooh. Finally, they departed. And they were replaced with a guy and two gals. Why is it always a guy and two girls. Of course, one was a brunette and the other a blonde. How predictable. The brunette was bit chunky. She was wearing this skimpy tank top where her excessive fat was bulging out. While the guy was directing his attention to the blonde, the brunette had leaned over and tugged on her top to reveal a little bit more cleavage. No amount of cleavage was going to help this girl. My friends and I, almost fell off the couch laughing hysterically. So the male departs briefly. And upon his return, the two gals are too busy touching each other. It wasn’t as if this guy was all that. But I guess it was his lucky night.

Despite the interesting dynamics of my people watching evening, I got bored pretty quickly. In the end I bid farewell to my friends.

5 Years

It has been about five years since my father has past. My god! About 5 years ago, my parents were worried that I wouldn’t be able to find a job after college. Fast forward 5 years later, the economy is totally shot. When my father has past, I really didn’t feel that I was able to grieve. Someone in the family had to the strong one. I didn’t want anyone to worry about my mum and me. Though inside I was slowly breaking apart.

All in Good Fun

I went to a birthday dinner last night. It was a lot of fun. Conversation was quite interesting. Went from mindless chit chat to something a bit more raunchy. Seriously, what do you get when you get a bunch of Asians in a room for a birthday party? Lots of flash bulbs. It seem everybody had a camera. So if we weren’t too busy eating, we were probably taking or posing for a picture. Yup I got all for occasion.

All in the Family

The other day I stumbled onto to my cousin’s blog. It’s nice to know that I’m actually the first person in the family to have blog. Considering I was the last to have a web page in college. Woo hoo! hehehe =) Yeah! I’m all giddy, and bouncing up and down the walls.

Groggy Wabbit

This morning, I was woken up from deep slumber by my mum. It was about 8 in the morning. Ack! After I swiped my mum into the train, I returned with the hopes of returning to my deep sleep. Of course, you know that wasn’t going happen. No matter, how hard I tried to stay half asleep while walked my mum to the station. God darn it! It was a good dream too. I don’t remember what it was about. Then again, you never remember the good ones. Ack!

Just Scandalous

Last night, I went to a gathering organized by a friend who is visiting from San Francisco. I left at about 11:20 pm. I didn’t leave without being subjected to some peer pressure. Of course, I didn’t surmise to the pressure, and returned home early on a Saturday night. Bit boring, huh? That’s okay.

Before I left, a few people were posing for pictures on top of an import car. It was most definitely scandalous. All I can say is it was a very interesting evening with it’s own cast of characters.

Well I got home at about half past midnight, and was totally wired with energy. What to do.. what to do. So I logged onto Yahoo Games. And I ended playing the addictive game Collapse, until I frustrated. I couldn’t get past level 9. Why me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Directions

A friend of mine from the San Francisco area ( who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are ) , im me to inquire how to get to Haight and Fillmore. I asked this such person why they wanted to go to Haight and Fillmore. And the person promptly told me that they wanted to go to the vintage clothing store. Though I believe this person was referring to the Haight and Ashbury area, which has a trendy bohemian vibe flooded with a slew of drug addicts. I know, it’s a weird combination. So I continue to tell my friend that they can get to Haight via the N-Judah Muni line.

In the end my friend, said “I’m asking someone that doesn’t live in San Francisco. I should be ashamed.” Yeah, you should be.
