Trying out Performancing

I’m writing this using the Performancing add-on for Firefox. It’s an add-on that allows you to create a blog post without having to go to your blog site. Performancing supports many different blogging platforms like LiveJournal, Windows Live Spaces, Wordpress and almost all XMLRPC based blogs. The editor, like Firefox, can be customized with themes and add-ons.

Adding my blog was quick and easy. The account wizard automatically detected the type of blog I had after I typed in my blog URL. From there it was just a matter of logging in to my site. All of my categories are available in a side pane (Categs. tab) so I didn’t have to setup a default category.

It takes a little to get used to because, by default, it starts in the Rich Text editor that doesn’t handle HTML tags well. You have to change to the Source Editing pane. All post are published unless you go into the Publishing Options and set it as a draft or change the setting (Settings -> Publishing features) to default to draft. The publishing options is also where you can add Technorati tags.

There are three ways to launch Performancing in Firefox. It can be opened as a split pane (browser window on top), a separate window or in a new tab. All of these options can be found by right-clicking the Performancing icon located on the status bar. Left clicking the icon will open it in the default split screen mode.

After making the first post, I found what some may consider an annoyance. It automatically adds the link you see at the bottom of this post. I couldn’t find anything on the Mozilla Add-on or the company website that let you know a tag line would be added to any post. You have to go into the Settings menu and remove the check mark next to Automatically insert Powered by Performancing? under Publishing features to stop it from adding that line.

Success is a ladder you cannot climb with your hands in your pockets.
