Fundraising efforts: So far, we have organized an apparel fundraiser
targeting the parents of incoming freshman scholars, offering two
hoodie designs, three t-shirt designs and beverage mugs.  We earned a
profit of $350 on the sale.  In addition, we will be offering the
t-shirts for sale once returning student’s move back into our building.
Deans of the Health and Human Services and CLASS colleges have
contributed $600.  We are still waiting for a response from the dean of
WCBA and the provost.
Community Service: Each member of the university scholar’s program is
required to participate in 60 hours of community service annually.  The
Scholar Trustees work to actively organize activities to help fulfill
this requirement.  Events we plan include Shantytown, a fall festival
at the boys and girls club, a 30-hour famine and a battle of the
classes to raise money for the Rich Center for Autism, among many
others.

Event Description: The officers of the University Scholar Trustees
(Jason Heyman, Carla Hill, Andrea Armeni, Justin McIntyre, and Lauren
Baker) have been selected to present at the National Collegiate Honors
Council’s conference in Washington, D.C. this October.  This is an
exciting opportunity for us as we will be presenting a session on the
success of the University Scholar Trustees and how it has affected our
university’s honors program.  We have placed a lot of time and effort
in seeing that our organization remains one of the most active and
tight-knit groups on campus, and being selected to present the ideas
and methods behind our unique organization at a national conference is
truly an honor.  In addition to presenting, three of us have been
selected to moderate a session during the conference.  Our hopes are to
not only represent Youngstown State University, but to also bring back
ideas from other top honors programs across the country.  This will be
the second year Youngstown

prestigious conference, but in attending a variety of presentations

Fundraising efforts: In the past, SNA has done fundraising with cookie
dough sales, YSU Nursing clothing, and Home Interior candles. We are
looking to continue most of these fundraisers this upcoming academic
year, along with adding a few more such as Handels ice cream tokens and
Chik-fil-A fundraising. Also, as a group we would like to hold 50/50
raffles on campus, pepperoni rolls sales, and a spaghetti dinner that
will be held during winter break.
Community Service: We have done quite a bit of community service, such
as donating money to the Ronald McDonald House, Evening of Giving at
the Southern Park Mall, and donating pop tabs we collected to tend the
Hospice House Garden. This year we plan on doing most of the same, but
adding some more service. These include donating time and food to the
Rescue Mission, clothing to Daybreak in Youngstown, and volunteering
with MRDD Special Olympics.

Event Description: The annual convention is to bring nursing students
from all over Ohio to meet and not only discuss what there school has
to offer, but nursing in general. At this event, we will be able to
listen to various speakers, test our knowledge in preparing for the
NCLEX-RN licensure exam, and communicate with other schools.
How event will benefit YSU: This event could benefit YSU and the
student body because it can help us to promote the school. By going, we
can show the rest of Ohio what YSU has to offer. It can aid us in
learning on how to make our school better by watching and listening to
the other schools in Ohio have to offer. This can be a great way to
show the state of Ohio what YSU is all about.
